First day in California

Saturday morning, 3:13 pm in my body, that means 6:13 am in reality . I jump out of the bed and look forward to a shower in our huge and own bathroom!

How to use an american shower?

I look at the temperature regulator: I have the choice between “C” and “H”. Smart like a fox I interpret C as Cold and H as Hot. So I open the water tap and turn to H. After a few minutes, my toes begin to turn blue, the water is ice cold. Hmm. Well, let’s try C. Better. Although still very cold. I remember Thailand – there I had a cold shower for a whole month! So brace yourself, Kiki! I hold my breath and take my cold shower.

After the shower I am alive.

What do you eat in the US for breakfast? Of course pancakes …

We have a delicious American pancake breakfast and learn how to get warm water: just be patient and wait…because of the aircondition it needs a long time to get warm.

Apropos AC: The weather is glorious!!! Blue sky, sunshine, the temperature is warm (around 30°C) and at night comes a cool breeze. But still I always need my sweater! Because of the aircondition in every building decreases the temperature from the 30°C to 18°C –  so I am freezing the whole time…It is particularly hard in the supermarket in the refrigerator compartment

But back to this wonderful sunny first morning in California. We are sitting in the garden and looking for apartments. Craigslist is the platform for the housing market.

We learn that here is everthing much more expensive than in Austria (or probably the rest of the world…). An average apartment, 70 m², is $ 2000,-!

In the afternoon we are getting tired. Yawn. Really tired! So we grab one of the three dogs, Jack Russel Terrier Maggie, and go for a walk in the sunshine. Better.

The house of our hosts is located in a really nice corner of San Joses! Big houses with beautiful front gardens – we could imagine to live here, but unfortunately we will not be able to afford it …

Jetlaaaaaag

The walk and the sun do us well. Then we spend an unspectacular, cozy evening with our friendly hosts with pizza and beer.

But, yawn, at 10 pm, yaaawn, we are, yaaaaaaaawn, really tired, yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn, and so we fall into our bed. Yaaaaaaaawn…………….
