Photography Class with David Coleman, at Pescadero Beach, California

Rrrrrrrrrring. 5:15 am. Yawn. I open my eyes. I can not see anything. Oh God. Oh, right. It’s still dark. I go to the bathroom and turn on the light. Still, can’t see nothing. Eyes are swollen. Uh-oh. But bravely I throw myself into the shower – after all, I want to be at the beach at sunrise. I got a photography workshop with David Coleman for my birthday from my dear friends from California 🙂

David Coleman – he does not only takes great pictures, he is also a great teacher

It quickly becomes clear: I’m the bloody beginner in our group with my only 1 1/2 years of photography experience. But my camera ‘Camy’ and I will do our best!

After a short theoretical introduction we start: Rules of Thirds is the first motto.

The “Rules of Thirds” is part 1 of our class

…The rule of thirds, I succeeded here quite well, right?

Part 2 deals with “movement”

We continue with motto number two: Motion. Should mean to take pictures of objects in motion.

Since we are at the ocean – why not use water?

Hyperfocale Distance. Not so easy with icecold fingers…

Last but not least we learn about Hyperfocal Distance. Huh? Here we learn how to get all objects, near and far, really sharp into our pictures.

My fingers are frozen after three hours in the icy wind but I am still eager to go on!

After a great morning I am looking forward to seeing my results on the big screen on my computer. And timidly I wanna say that I’m a little proud of my work. What do you think?

My lips are blue now and my fingers red – but I had a lot of fun and learned a lot. So if you are in the mood to do a field trip with an experienced photographer: I totally recommend to do it with David Coleman!

Bye bye Pescadero Beach…

And now, now I need a nice, hot cup of tea!

Or … I invite some friends and we taste Kiki’s Mulled Wine 🙂
